The induction got me to further think of my ideas for my final project, which is something I started to think on over summer as I had previously asked final years ‘how it works’. However it did get me thinking on trying new things such as designing for print which previously I was just thinking of something digital. As well as this I learned I could design in VR and not just ‘for VR’ however I am not sure if I will as I think the VR industry is falling off.

Idea 1

The problem

It is hard for collectors to keep track of their large collections, what they own and the total value.

There are collectable trackers online but only for specific things. For example the Boba Fett fan club specifically has a tracker only for collectables which feature Boba Fett. Or Funko have a tracker which you can scan product bar codes, however this is exclusively for their products.

It is also hard to find older collectables online and to get them for a good price you need to constantly be checking multiple platforms (eBay, Vinted, Facebook marketplace/groups).

Collectors may not be aware of certain variants especially more common on vintage collectables which can greatly increase the value of the collectable.

Solution

An AI powered app which will allow the user to take a photo of a shelf display (containing many and different items), it will detect all ‘licenced’ collectables and add them to your collection instead of the user doing it all manually.

The same AI will scan sold listings to give accurate values for products so collectors know exactly what things are worth. This will help with selling, trading or for personal knowledge.

Another feature could be its own collectable search engine where you can search for a specific item such as ‘Kenner Boba Fett’, which you can favourite the item which the AI will detect different listings from different platforms. This will save the user from having to be chronically online to get some sweet deals.
