Branding is something I have done in the past, however it was nowhere near the level of detail of this module. Previously I would've created what looks nice and what colours look nice without considering what personality or emotions a design may convey to an audience. Being totally honest when I heard I would be creating a bank brand as my project for this semester I did expect it to be very boring, However creating something with every design choice having meaning. At the start of this Semester my lecturer said he would make sure you have meaning for every choice which did put a lot of pressure on me, but I found this very useful especially for keeping on track every week to present something new to my lecturer and tell him the thought behind everything without him even having to ask.
With the project being a bank brand, and me not being the biggest fan of this I did find this more challenging which is always a positive so I could prove to myself I can create something nice out of something I think is quite boring. It will never always be fun or something I am personally interested in but I feel like this gives me a better idea of working in the industry with clients,.
I do really enjoy branding, especially Logo design which in this semester I took a new approach I have not thought of using before which I think has opened new gateways for me to explore. For the project I did want to make my brand more specific than what was assigned which is why I chose a app based for students which from the start I had a good vision on how I wanted to go with my app. I did find my idea getting challenged during Critiques however I think the idea was there and shown well in my final app.
Tone of voice is something I had previously never really considered and found quite challenging to get it how I wanted it, even with knowing how I wanted it. It wasn't to near the end I really had to present the tone of voice which was on the landing page. I also previously did not realize how important the tone of voice is and how it can be used to target certain audiences of certain ages, personalities or even where someone may work.
During this module I also learned a good process of creating a brand and all the different stages involved. Learning and using a good workflow and process will greatly help me especially in the industry.
This module also helped introduced Figma prototyping and components to me which being totally honest, I didn't even know prototyping was available in Figma.
Overall I really enjoyed the module, it did surprise me how I enjoyed the project with it being a bank brand. Learning something new each week and then applying it to my brand I thought was really enjoyable.
