An idea I had in mind since first year, coming from personal experience from myself, family and talking/hearing others in the same position. This is a idea is for Accident and Emergency (A&E).

My story

I first went to the doctors early morning. After I was examined by the doctor they contacted A&E which they phoned me immediately, and that they would be waiting on me and head to a particular area. (as it required urgent attention).

I then went to A&E which I asked the reception if I was in the right area and explained where the staff told me to go on the phone. I kept asking different people as I had a feeling I was in the wrong area. It was 8 hours later I was phoned again to ask if I was coming up, which I had been waiting the whole time and asked multiple staff where I had to go. I kept getting told someone will come and get me to bring me where to go which obviously this wasnt happening.

NOTE: During the waiting in reception I felt very unsafe. There were multiple fights outside, people on drink/drugs and police were patrolling.

After I was brought to the right area, I got looked at by another doctor which then said I needed surgery. Because it was late I had to wait overnight while on drip. During the experience and getting different treatments I had staff ask me ‘have I had this’? etc which I was very unsure what was going on never mind what treatment I have been getting. This even happened in the surgery room which the surgen even said that the drip needle is useless and moved its location.

After the surgery I finally got a private room which I was still getting treatments, however there was poor communication between staff as staff were still asking me. I was very worried and tired I was unable to think about all this.

My thoughts

From my personal experience in A&E one of the main problems is communication between staff, especially with the different areas. I was experiencing this problem since the start without knowing, being in pain the entire time.
