To begin this project I created a mind map to research my chosen topic of prisoners having ‘Limited community resources’. This task was agreed on by the team to have ready for the following week.
Before going straight to the mind map I wanted to familiarize myself with what community resources are especially for this specific topic of prisoners.
I found this service which offers services such as intensive resettlement support for prison leavers, assistance with finding housing, help with training and employment, and specific programs for women and people affected by paramilitary violence.

Something brought up in the team discussion was homeless shelters which I done some research into them and their ties with accepting recently released prisoners. Close to this I came across ‘faith’ community groups which provide food banks which can be used by released prisoners.
In my research I also looked into housing support, Probation supervision, health, Employment education training, Voluntary and community sector organizers and practical life support. I also found out that ‘high risk prisoners’ face certain restrictions which further limit their community resources. In my research topics such as housing support was covered as a community resource which another topic in the group was ‘housing crisis’ however I covered a wide range of different topics in mine.
For creating my mind map I decided to use the website ‘Whimsical’ for this as I find it a great website to create nice, clear mind maps on which was my teams set ‘homework’ for next weeks team meeting.
When creating my mind map I came up with different headings of what would be linked to ‘Community Resources’ which would include things such as housing support and homeless shelters.
This task was just for us to get a better understanding of some of the key topics from the project documents which were provided, so when the mentors are there next week we have a better understanding of what terms mean and the difficulties of the Prisoners. The team will share our mind maps on our Miro Board and we can chat about our findings in our next team meeting.
