For this project I have to design a music player app which I plan to create up to six different screens, which I will have to create icon buttons, UI layout and create a working prototype.
During week one, it was mentioned by my lecturer that you can ‘get specific’ with your music player app which one of the examples shown was a music app for harp music only.
To begin planning my different ideas for this task I went to my sketchbook to note down mind maps for different themes.
My first idea was to create a music app for rave/dance classics music as this is something I listen too often and collect records and CD’s of. I thought this idea would be good as I could target the age group of 16-40 as in my music player I planned for the ‘classics’ and then modern remixes or new releases in the same genre. I know this idea would work great for a wide age range, but I felt like this idea was too generic and I would maybe like something more specific to be unique.
My next idea was to create a music player app specifically for Danny Elfman which he is a singer, song writer, Record producer, composer and percussionist just to name a few. I have always been a huge fan of Danny Elfmans work too since I was a kid so I would have a very keen interest in creating this piece if this is what I decide to go for. This idea is good as Elfman has a wide genre of music such as rock, classical and movie which would also target a wide age range. As mentioned in my notes I plan for my app to hold some information about Elfman and his music which his website includes lots of information.
For my third idea, keeping on track with being ‘specific’ I planned a idea for a music app for movie soundtracks only. Similar to Elfman, I am a huge film/TV fan which I know there are well known composers and soundtracks in this industry which I have noted in my mind map. This idea will also target a wide age range and even wider genres. For this idea I plan for the song select to have a retro feel of using DVDs as the album covers which I think I could get creative with this idea.
So far by these three ideas my second idea is my favourite, the music app for Danny Elfman, but I plan to come up with more ideas for further options to explore.
