For week one we were introduced to the foundations of the module and point, line and plane in the design industry. We started with looking at the aims and outcomes of the course which gave me a better understanding of what to do in the course.

After looking at the aims and outcomes we had a overview of each topic which will be covered each week of the modules.

We then had to use Miro for the first time to answer the question ‘What are you hoping to get out of the course’? I wrote how I want to get a good, well paid job from doing the course. Reflecting back to the induction slides of places past students are working I would also love to work at Disney as a digital designer.

Building a visual vocabulary

To start learning ‘point, line and plane’ we had a brief intro of building a visual vocabulary and how to build on solid principles.

We looked into some examples provided on the slideshow on how point, line plane is used for design which at first was confusing to me of ‘why use this method for design’ but learning more about it I realized it is just the simple building blocks for any design. When even sketching designs you are using this method to create the shapes of your desired design.

Point

The first of the three we looked into depth was ‘point’ which we investigated a website by a designer called ‘Josh Worth’ which uses the point design to show how planets scale from each other if the moon was a pixel large point. This was a great example on how simple shapes can be used for design and how you can create something interactive and informative with something so basic. Josh uses points to create each individual planet and scales them accordingly. As well as using point design elements josh uses lines to show distance between the planets. Josh Worth. (Unknown).
