To begin Design History we first looked at the module content such as what the Lecture series will include and what each different weeks topics will be. During this I also learned how the grading system works for this module and how to ensure I achieve as highest marks possible from future projects and research.
After this we looked at some examples of what we will look at in the weeks to come such as caveman paintings and famous art such as the Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai. I have always enjoyed learning about History which I have never really considered ‘Design History’ which I am very intrigued to find out how design has ‘evolved’ to what it is now.
During this lecture I was also given my first project, which the projects are like ‘assignments’ which I am used to from College. There was a few examples of past ‘type specimen posters’ which I really liked the ‘Serif Killer’ poster as it includes lots of information and reminds me of propaganda with the colours and the title. I may try to create something similar to this idea for my project but I may get different ideas once I start my research for this project.
