This was the introduction to my first module for semester 2. One important detail mentioned is that year 2 counts towards my final grades on University. I assumed first year did too however I heared from my classmates that it does not however it is still good I thought that way to still deliver good quality work.
During the lecture different topics were mentioned of what I would learn about in this semester will include Content Audit, Site-Mapping, Sketching, Storyboards, Usability testing and writing content for a site. Some of these topics I am familiar with such as storyboards and sketching and some are new to me such as Content Audit and Site Mapping.
Something I found interesting in the lecture was the ‘Google trends’ site which you can go back in time to see how much a term was typed into google to see how popular it is. A good example I was showing was how UI/UX searches started in the early 2000’s and is constantly getting more and more popular. We were told how we could use this to help find a audience too.
There was also a reminder of the work flow on how to create a good design from research to the final product for the smart watch app which included:
Discovery - research smart watch apps
-Plan- I will create this product
-What text I want to show
-Sketch
-Visual
-Prototype
-Test
-Discuss
-Deliver but keep refining
A important detail I want to mention was to find whats already out there (doesn't exist yet) and what is most and least popular. This is a very good starting point for my idea generation to ensure that I am not making something what is already a thing. I still think it would be open to create a app what is new for a smartwatch app but not for a phone for example. This makes me want to come up with a niche idea to show creativity and ensure that it is a new original idea which I think I would enjoy more.
