This week was all about Illustration, which is something I am very interested in.

During the lecture I looked at many different illustration artists and their different styles throughout the years.

Artists

Something I thought was very interesting was illustration by photocopiers and fax machines. I really liked Paul Ellimans work who took different shapes from his house to create illustrations with. During research I also found that Elliman created his own typographic work which he used pictures from a photo booth of people expressing letters which is very unique.

Moving on to more modern artists, a artist called Olly Moss who works with Mondo was mentioned who has created some of the best movie posters of all time in my opinion. I have seen his Star Wars work hundreds of times but I never knew the name of the artist so I was glad he was covered during the lecture. I also found out that Moss uses a tablet to create his work using Procreate, which is something I have dabbled with in the past.

I own some artwork from artists who work with Mondo similar to Olly Moss which I have framed. Their prints are very collectable and can sell for hundreds. The artwork I own is designed by Matt Ryan Tobin for the Cobra Kai soundtrack which there is a mixture of vector art and realism.

Vector art was mentioned which is something I have more experience in which the artist Matt Anderson was mentioned. What I like about vector art is that it is easy to see how it is all broken down into shapes, which I feel gives other artists more confidence that they can create something great too. Even just by looking at Andersons ship artwork, I know I could easily recreate this in Illustrator if I put the time and work into it.

Moving on to more ‘relevant’ artists to the work and course I am doing in UX/UI illustrations, Charlie Waite was covered who creates icons for apps such as Uber. I dont personally use or have seen this app before but it has very nice icons and vector artwork such as the airport. I can take inspiration from work like this to include in my projects.

Kyle Tez is another UX/UI artist who also created vector art which his designs are very simple, but detailed.
