Critique

This was the final critique of my smartwatch app which I am very confident with the final design so I am excited to hear/read my feedback on this project.

Feedback from my lecturer was very positive, he really liked my idea and designs. He said he really liked my tree icons and how they slightly go over the borders on the home page. I was also praised for applying my feedback from week 2 which I redesigned the info page layout and removed a page and replaced it with a new one. I really appreciated that feedback from week 2 as I know it really did improve my app.

The only one real ‘negative’ feedback if I could even call it that was that how my app could work with any plant, not just specifically Bonsai trees. However I designed this app for Bonsai as they are very ‘particular’ for example requiring precise watering which my app helps with.

I was also recommended to add titles to some areas such as adding ‘sunlight’ below the sunlight bar and ‘moisture’ to the water level bar.

Now moving on to feedback from my class I got lots of positives for my illustrations of my bonsai tree. I also got a comment saying how my theme is really nice and how it is not overpowering and balanced. I really liked this comment as ‘balance’ is related to Bonsai tree themselves (Balance in bonsai refers to the visual harmony and stability of the tree’s overall composition).

In the ‘change’ section it was mentioned how the ‘add tree’ icon looks like a hit marker, which is very true. I knew myself something looked a bit off about it which I now realize I just need to make a plus icon with all lines connecting not leaving a gap in the middle.

I was also recommended twice on how I could add colour to the progress bars to enhance the UI. I think this is a good recommendation however I have experimented with this and I think it makes the colour coded outlines less clear to the user that they are colour coded for warning levels.

Overall my critique went very well, I got lots of good positive feedback with some small adjustments I could add to enhance my design but I was told it was almost case study ready (I just needed to make them small adjustments).
