Week four covered Photography, which is something I have a keen interest in. However this lecture covered how photography can be used to enhance UI which is something new.
To begin the lecture it was mentioned how photos used in UI play a critical role to engage users which using rich colours typically works better.
The golden ratio was mentioned again which is something I am familiar with from UXD 101. This time it was mentioned how the Golden Ratio can be used to capture a more visually pleasing piece of photography. Similar to this, the rule of thirds was also mention and how it is used to capture visual appeal and detail.
Photographs give the vibe of your brand, the basic website doesn't. For example during the lecture ‘Neighbourhood Cafe’ was covered which the website is very basic with little colour and text, but photography is used to show the audience the vibe of the cafe, and what their experience would look like. You can also tell their photography was well thought out as green is prominent in each photo from the trees. branding and even the green sweatshirt.
Photography can be used to present ideas, such as prototypes or products. A example of this is how apple took a photograph to show the size of their product and how the inside of the product is designed.
Car makers are a good example of this, as images of the cars sell cars. This tells the user what the car looks like and with additional photos such as the engine it also tells the user what they can do.
