This week in class I learned on how to create a storyboard for the user experience of a app. Not just of the app itself but considering the user (Before and after the app too). We were told to think of the users (characters) too. Storyboards are something I am very familiar with from the Animation course I studied at college.
In the lecture the task in in groups (4 people in total) which we started by discussing what SDGs we could cover which we thought of multiple ideas and used a randomizer to select what one we would cover. Once we planned our app idea for this task which we ended up picking SDG 6 - Clean water and sanitation. We came up with a quick concept creating a superhero themed app which works with a product (branded water bottles with scannable codes for the super hero app). Once we had the app idea we then needed to plan the characters which the main character ‘Timmy’ wastes water and doesn't really drink it and throws it away etc. His mum is the second main character who is not happy with this which she will explain how clean water is not available to everyone and how people would love access to clean water.
Creating the storyboard was pretty easy as their was graphics provided which I used google to resource some extra icons such as a water bottle and a water bottle with a cross through it.
I found this task fun and helpful to think further of how the app would impact the user after using the app and not just about the app itself. I think this is a great way to think especially for creating a SDG as you would want to educate young children about these issues and why they are so important.
After looking at the Storyboards in class I then learned about sitemaps. Sitemaps are basically a more complicated wireframe but labelling everything on it such as where a video will be, image or text. For my SDG project I will make one of these on I set on a idea for my app.
Creating a sitemap is a good planning tool to consider structure, navigation, page hierarchy, plan logical presentation to users and to visualize user paths.
I will create a sitemap for my SDG project before digitalising anything just to give myself a strong guide on the direction I want to go with.
