This was the first critique for this module which the primary focus on the Micro Animations. As well as this we also started to think more on the smart home project at the end of the lecture.
Feedback for my first prototype was to edit the ‘keyhole icon’ as it looks like a ‘squashed spoon’. I was also recommended to add a ‘success screen’ to make it more clear to the user if the door has been open etc.
My only worry with this feedback is that it would add too much friction to the user experience. As when the user drags the key the text says ‘the door is open’ then changes for a prompt to say how to lock it again. I may add a ‘stroke’ effect for when the user opens the door to make it more clear.
For my second Micro Animation feedback included to make it bigger and add radius. As it is the main point of contact I should make it bigger to make it clearer to the user where they should click to achieve what they want to do.
I was also recommended to change the file number to a percentage out of 100%. For me I thought individual files made more sense for the context of converting a file format which files can take different time depending on size, but I will experiment with this or maybe make a separate progress bar for the total out of 100%.
My only feedback for my final Micro Interaction was to flesh out the UI more. I did not realise this was too important for this project as I thought the primary focus was on the interactions themselves, along with lo-fi wire frames. However this is something I can quickly fix which it would greatly benefit the overall look of my UI.
Note: I also had the 500-750 word document for the context of each animation but this was not looked at in the crit. I also had my magazine cover story (all text and cover) created which also did not get looked at at this crit but I had it all complete as it was asked to have it complete by this week.
At the end of the lecture I completed a ‘paper ideation’ task which I actually found highly beneficial to just note down any ideas I had, and didn't think of possible restrictions. There was quite a lot in this task from noting ideas, creating a user persona, house map, storyboard etc. I was surprised at the end of the task by how much topics were covered as sometimes these are like ‘weekly tasks’.
