This weeks lecture covered how ‘story’ can be used for design. This lecture was actually pretty similar to Media Studies in secondary school which went in depth of storytelling, such as the beginning, middle, end and other topics such as sound which was covered in today's lecture.
At the start graphic design was covered which graphic design in story's can make them easier to understand. I found this very interesting looking at designers who produce work which is used in movies, which was something I never really though of before. Me being into prop making this got me to think of more possible careers which working in the movie industry would absolutely be amazing.
One of the designers mentioned was Annie Atkins who creates realistic graphic props, which makes the worlds in movies more believable.

Something I thought of immediately was the newspapers in Spider man by the ‘Daily Bugle’ which is a news brand inside the spider man universe. But I never really thought of someone sitting down to design the paper for the movie.
Another way a story can be impacted is by sounds and narratives one of the main examples in the lecture was ‘the power of the pause’ which can create a impact. The music from Jaws was used to show how lots of pauses heighten suspense, you know something is going to happen but at what point? A similar sound method in class was in the Godfather which the character pauses himself and there is loud train sounds in the background before he fries his gun.
This ties with design in that some people just need a pause, with my idea of holograms etc they could take a few seconds to appear, and maybe when they appear they start to ‘build up’ rather than just instantly appearing.
A really nice example of colour contrast was used which was a black and white movie which one girls coat was highlighted in red throughout the movie to draw the users eyes to it. This example was used to show how a single colour could be used to highlight certain parts of a design of where can be interacted with. For example icons can be highlighted when they can be selected and maybe greyed out when they cannot.
A example of perspective used was the Shining to show that ‘you are alone, no one is coming to help.’
Perspective - can show distance and where you are - remoteness - showing your on your own shining example
