This week was the first ‘Hand in’ for Projects one and two for Interaction Design Fundamentals. Having my projects ready I was very happy to finally receive some feedback about my designs.
Listening to my Lecturer I then found out that we will be Critiquing each others work as groups, discussing other classmates work. As I have done similar Critique & Feedback before in College I was ready to leave helpful and constructive feedback to others work to let them know what is good in their designs and if they could possibly improve their designs to enhance their work.
Before going right into the Critique we quickly had a quick lecture about what a Critique is, is not and how to leave a professional Critique. I found this useful to get a better idea of what would be most important to discus with my team to ensure all feedback is high standard, clear and useful to the recipient. The main thing I wanted to do for this task was to help others enhance their work if possible.
To ensure I left a strong, relevant critique I made sure I followed the list provided on the slides which included, Review the project brief, Clarify the objectives of the project, Look at each other's work to see if it meets the required objectives, In other words, does it communicate what it was supposed to and to Give constructive feedback on each others work.
Once my Lecturer done a demonstration on what to do for the critique we then got into our groups to begin reviewing ‘Group four’. To start with we first had to review each others ‘point designs’ from project one. To do this I opened the project one brief to see all the requirements to use as a checklist. I first made sure that the person followed the requirements of the brief which once that was checked off my group discussed which word we thought the persons design was conveying. As this was a group discussion I did have some different opinions on others on which word I thought was correct which we all gave our thoughts and agreed on one, we did note if one design was ‘unsure’ and noted which words we thought it could be.
Unfortunately only two of the people in that group had their work uploaded to Miro which I thought instead of wasting time waiting for the next task I would ask a classmate in my group if we could review each others work too once we finished reviewing the ‘point’ designs to have more to work with. My classmate got one of two of my point designs right. He thought my first designs word was ‘Reflect’ as on my first design there is a circle in one corner which moves to the other. I fully understand where he is coming from which I now realize my first design could be reflect and disperse. For my second design he got it right which was Rhythm he also understood the meaning of it to look like sound bars.
Soon after getting this feedback my Critique was ready from the other group. For both point designs they wrote ‘Not sure’ but then wrote what word they were most leaning towards which they got them both correct.
As I had to leave class early I did not get to discuss the Critique for line, plane and the human rights article posters. In my own time I had a look at everyone's designs as I thought it would be interesting to see how different everyone's creative thinking is. I then had a read though the rest of my feedback for line, plane and my poster.
My first line design was keyword ‘rhythm’ which the group thought it was ‘frequency’ as they noted it looked like a frequency table in maths. I understand where they are coming from but I think as a five frame ‘animatic’ type design rhythm shows better. For my second line design it was noted as either frequency as the design grows each frame or asymmetry which is correct as my design reflects itself in the other direction. My plane feedback was very useful as the person noted that I was over five planes, I did not realize this was a requirement so this is something I will defiantly have to change for my final design.
For my project 2 Human Rights Article poster I received two different pieces of feedback. One person noted that it is nice and simple which it gets straight to the point which they also mentioned that the colour palate stands out and reflects back to the propaganda we looked at in design history. This person also understood the six design in the bottom corner made of line design. Another person noted that I should include more design characteristics to reflect the article itself. I am not sure what I could add to convey this as I wanted a minimal poster which the article itself is very readable and clear with not too much more as I don't want to distract the user from the meaning of poster.
